Spa software has a reputation for being expensive. Lots of features, lots of tiers, lots of reasons the price ends up higher than the headline number suggested.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. Here’s what affordable actually looks like, and what you should be checking before you sign up for anything.
Watch out for fees that aren’t upfront
The monthly price is rarely the full picture. Some platforms charge per booking, per client, or per SMS reminder. Others charge extra for reporting, or lock basic features behind a higher tier.
Before you commit to anything, ask: what’s included in the base price, and what costs extra? Get a straight answer.
You don’t need every feature
Spa software can come loaded with things you’ll never use. Loyalty programmes, gift voucher management, staff performance dashboards, multi-location support. These sound appealing but they add cost and complexity.
If you’re running a single-location spa in Auckland or Melbourne, you need online booking, appointment reminders, POS, and basic reporting. That’s it. Don’t pay for the rest.
No-contract matters
The spa industry has its ups and downs. Seasonal fluctuations, lease changes, life happening. You shouldn’t be locked into a 12-month contract when the market is unpredictable.
Month-to-month means you stay because the software is good, not because leaving is painful.
Setup should take hours, not weeks
A spa booking system shouldn’t require a dedicated onboarding team. If the sales process involves multiple demos and a setup fee, that’s a sign the product is more complicated than it needs to be.
Baxus is set up in minutes. Add your services, add your hours, share your booking link. First month free, $32 a month after that, no lock-in contract.
